A theme you will be exposed to at the Rock of NW Arkansas is that "great revelation does not need to be explained." Expect to be taught that you should not have to be able to explain anything that God has told you. To make something "explainable" is to take it out of the "spiritual realm" and make it useless.
The members of the Rock are taught that they do not need to be able to articulate what they are being taught. This is an incredibly dangerous and manipulative teaching! Below is a systematic dismantling of this doctrine and an explanation why this type of teaching is so treacherous.
Ministry of Freedom
As a contrast to the teachings at the Rock, Jesus Christ came to free us. Free us from religion. Free us from the need for the priest. Free us from sin. Free us to relate to God on our own alongside a body of believers that have the same goals. Christ's life was a ministry of freedom.
Bondage of Ignorance
To tell people that they do not need to understand something to embrace it is a form of manipulation and control. To actively teach this type of thinking is to require absolute trust and blind belief. Does that sound like a ministry of freedom?
Absolute trust is sometimes necessary. Blind belief is sometimes required of us by God. Yet, that trust and belief is in God through Jesus Christ, NOT in an earthly man or ministry. The Rock of NW Arkansas teaches that when the apostle receives revelation that he does not have to explain it, nor should anyone at the Rock have to be able to explain it.
This is further evidenced by the lack of written materials produced by the Rock of NW Arkansas. To write out revelation would require a systematic understanding and argument. Those responsibilities are far outside the realm of what they believe they are required to do.
Disregard for Scripture
Another area where great danger exists in this type of thinking is that beliefs do not have to be compared to scriptures. If you cannot articulate your beliefs then how can scriptures be compared? Herein lies the greatest danger! The people of the Rock are taught that they do not have to be able to explain what they believe and in this way are controlled.
This may seem incredible to someone who has not been a part of the Rock of NW Arkansas, but the fact remains that the charismatic leader has a way of slowly pulling people into this kind of thinking. The result is a group of people that do not care if what they believe lines up with scripture, nor could they respond to concerns about the lack of foundation of their beliefs.
